Why AM?
Who we are
We have a passion for primary sources and the technology that brings them to life. We’re proud to work with libraries, archives and heritage institutions to digitise the world’s historical and cultural knowledge.
The company was founded in 1990 with a belief that arts and humanities scholars should be able to access a diverse range of primary sources for research and teaching. From microfilm to AI technology, we’re reimagining what a primary source can be, preparing and providing for born digital content to empower current and future generations to challenge, analyse and debate.
Our mission statement specifically describes our desire to encourage current and future generations to challenge, analyse and debate. These ideas are foundations of everything we do at AM, not just in terms of our publishing, but also our company culture and values. We encourage everyone at AM to continually challenge ideas and ways of doing things - we never want to stand still.
What we do
In an age of misinformation and distortion, primary sources are more vital than ever. They are simply an essential tool for understanding our contemporary world and critically evaluating how the past transforms the present.
We continue to create innovative products that encourage balanced analysis and robust debate about the past to ensure we address the needs of the diverse communities we work with. Our publishing programme demonstrates our continued commitment to uncovering hidden voices, sourcing content on global themes, and promoting interdisciplinary approaches.
