University of Liverpool forges new digital path as the first UK university to launch AM Quartex site
In a significant stride towards digitising its cultural heritage and advancing its global research endeavours, the University of Liverpool has launched a new digital collections site powered by AM Quartex. This landmark initiative marks the University as the first in the UK to utilise AM Quartex as part of the library’s digital infrastructure and sees it join a global community of users including Syracuse University, Cork City Libraries, and The Archbishop Tutu IP Trust.
Aligned with the University’s Liverpool 2031 strategic plan, the newly launched platform serves as a cornerstone in realising its aspirations to become a global research destination, harnessing the capabilities of AM Quartex to provide access to its rich repository of digital assets and engage a diverse audience of researchers worldwide.
The library’s decision to adopt AM Quartex in March 2023 was followed swiftly by an early site launch at AM’s Reimagining Primary Sources day, held at the Liverpool Maritime Museum in October 2023. Following from the University's embrace of innovative solutions, the platform has evolved into a dynamic hub, facilitating collaborative digital scholarship and enabling the creation, presentation, and preservation of both digitised and born-digital collections.
Joanne Fitton, Olivia Thompson, and Sam Gill from the University of Liverpool Libraries, Museums, and Galleries shed light on the transformative journey during the Reimagining Primary Sources day, underscoring the pivotal role of AM Quartex in driving this digital shift. You can watch the full recording of their session here.
As the University continues to execute its Liverpool 2031 strategic plan, the digital collections site on AM Quartex will continue to grow, offering an ever-expanding array of enriching resources to scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts within the University, across the city of Liverpool, and worldwide.
