Towson University launches digital archives on Quartex

Adam Matthew Digital is pleased to announce that Towson University has become the latest partner to launch its digital archiveson Quartex.

Through this initial launch phase, Quartex is now home to twelve collections from Towson University’s Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) which span five collecting areas: Towson University history, Jewish Studies, Performing Arts, World War II, and the History of Education in Maryland.

The SCUA collects, preserves, and shares documents, photographs, and artifacts of permanent, historical value produced or received by Towson University and through digital publication with Quartexmuch of this material is now accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world.

Alongside material specific to Towson University such as commencement programs from 1866-87 and course catalogs, the digital archive also includes rich images of the objects found within the Louis Rosenthal Miniature Sculpture Collection, the bulk of which consists of miniature bronze sculptures which are historical, mythological, biblical, satirical, and whimsical in nature.

It was important for us to find a platform that could showcase the diverse range of content we hold in a way that iseasily searchablemakes the most of therich material and is easy for our team to maintain and update. Quartex allows us to do all of that and with a level of personalisation that means our digital archives look and feel like atrue Towson experience.

Ashley Todd-Diaz, Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections & University Archives, Towson University

“We’ve seen over the last year how important it is to help institutions digitally publish their archival content and make it accessible to researchers wherever they are located. Towson University hold valuable material and it has been a pleasure working with the team to publish and display it through Quartex. We look forward to continuing our work with the Towson team publishing material and utilising many more Quartex features.”
