Harris County Public Library celebrates centennial with publication of digital archives on Quartex

Harris County Public Library is the latest institution to adopt the Quartex platform for digitally publishing archival material.

Celebrating 100 years in 2021, Harris County Public Library (HCPL) is a multimillion-dollar cultural fixture in the daily life of Harris County. With 26 branch libraries, 1.7 million library cardholders, and a yearly circulation of more than 10,000,000 physical and digital items, the migration of the digital archives will see some 10,000 items moved to Quartex with another 3,000 items added by the end of 2021, as the library continues to digitise more assets.

The launch of the HCPL Digital Archive is part of a year-long celebration for the library, which will start with online programming with a hope for in-branch celebrations later in the year as COVID-19 cases decline.

We’re delighted to be migrating our digital archive collections to Quartex. These materials are important to understanding and studying the history of Harris County and so it was imperative we find a platform that is not only end-user friendly, but one that also makes uploading and managing the content easy for our team as the archive continues to grow. We’re really excited about the Exhibits feature in Quartex and already have plans for some 30 Exhibits throughout 2021 and beyond.

Cecilia Williams, Manager, Technical Services, Harris County Public Library

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Harris County Public Library to Quartex. The team at HCPL have some very exciting centenary plans that make the most of both their rich content and the features and functionality of Quartex. We look forward to working closely with them in the coming months to realise these plans and celebrate the fantastic community work the library is engaged in.”
