Building a library for the future: University of Utah’s Marriott Library joins AM as an Impact partner

AM is proud to announce a partnership with the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library, marking a pivotal moment in the development of the university’s research infrastructure.

This investment elevates the University of Utah to Impact status with AM, joining a global community of institutions. It unlocks unparalleled access to the publisher's broad range of primary source collections and academic engagement support. The investment underpins a commitment to long-term collaboration between faculty, students, and the library, empowering interdisciplinary research and teaching at every level at the university.

With this investment the university now has seamless access to hundreds of AM primary source databases, covering a broad range of time periods, disciplines, and themes. These include collections such as Indigenous Histories and Cultures in North America, Medical Services and Warfare, Gender: Identity and Social Change, Popular Medicine in America, 1800-1900, Colonial Caribbean, Ethnomusicology and the Royal Shakespeare Company Archives among many more.

Joel Thornton, Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Communication at the University of Utah, orchestrated this investment. Since joining the library in 2022, Thornton has focused on developing long-term strategies that align with the university's ambitious academic and research goals.

Historically, collection investments in primary source databases were made based on stakeholder requests for specific collections. This comprehensive investment with AM allows us to become increasingly strategic about our long-term goals, supporting current research and teaching needs and laying the foundation for emerging areas of study. This will position the University of Utah as a leader in interdisciplinary scholarship.

Joel Thornton, Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Communication, University of Utah

The collaboration between the University of Utah and AM is rooted in a shared vision of supporting academic and research excellence. Alicia Sell, Associate Director, North America Sales at AM, emphasised the importance of this relationship.

AM is excited to expand our partnership with the University of Utah. We look forward to working closely with the university’s faculty and students to integrate these collections into their teaching and research. Our aim is to support the University of Utah’s growing ambitions with our diverse primary sources and academic engagement support, and support current and future generations to think critically, challenge, analyse and debate.

Alicia Sell, Associate Director, North America Sales, AM

This strategic investment marks the next chapter in the University of Utah’s commitment to academic excellence, creating a rich research environment that will benefit scholars today and in the future.
