Five ways Quartex promotes effective and efficient working
We asked Head of Customer Experience, Martin Drewe, to reveal some of the key processes built into Quartex that could save you time. Here are five ways Quartex simplifies digital asset management.
1. Secure and stable upload of assets, on any device
The Quartex Uploader app is a stable and secure means of uploading assets, pre-existing transcripts or asset thumbnails.
It’s the only downloadable element of Quartex; otherwise it’s entirely web-based.
In the age of hybrid/remote working, this flexibility has proved crucial in enabling institutions to efficiently build and launch new digital collections, particularly during COVID lockdowns.
2. Replace or update digital files without breaking links
If you acquire higher quality versions of files that already exist in your Quartex asset repository, the ‘overwrite existing files’ function is a lifesaver.
It enables you to replace files of the same name without having to delete the old assets or even break their association with metadata, or the collection(s) to which they’re assigned.
Similarly, you can also overwrite existing fields when uploading metadata.
3. Continue working in-platform during asset upload
Uploading assets to your digital repository doesn’t have to be a blocker to other work.
In Quartex, uploads of assets, transcripts or thumbnails run as a background process, so you and your team can stay productive by working on other aspects of your digital inventory or collections site.
4. Create metadata-only records to facilitate digitisation-on-demand
It’s not always possible for you to prioritise every archival collection for digitisation.
But, if those collections have at least been catalogued, the publication of metadata-only records to your digital archive lets your visitors know that you have these materials, and that it may be possible to request digitisation on-demand.
You then have the option of uploading the resulting digital files to your digital archive and easily associating them with their existing metadata records.
5. Apply multiple changes with simple but powerful batch edit functionality
Your metadata schema or copyright terms may change, but how do you easily update hundreds or thousands of digital assets to reflect these updates?
In Quartex, it’s simple with our powerful batch edit functionality.
Changes to any metadata field can be made easily and instantly to single or multiple assets.
In the words of one of our customers, “Being able to add thousands of images in one go and batch edit thousands of metadata records is, in digital collections terms, a treat.”
