Doing history: How I introduce new students to primary sources

Kristopher Bryan Burrell PhD, Associate Professor of History at Hostos Community College-CUNY

Saturday, 25 June, 11:30am & 2:30pm

Booth #1548

Students typically have a narrow understanding of what constitutes a primary source when they first begin their studies. But knowledge of what a primary source is, where they can be located, and how to navigate them are vital skills for students of the humanities and social sciences ‚Äď and beyond.

In this session, Dr. Burrell will explore the common understanding of primary sources students have when they first embark on studying history, and how knowledge of how to interact with these sources allows his students to reach into the past and grapple with historical issues and questions which still resonate today.
